FLORENCE, Ind. – The Asbury University men's golf team competed at the River States Conference Championship Tournament at Belterra Golf Course in Florence, Ind. on Monday.
The Eagles played two full rounds and after 36 holes of play they sit in a tie for third place with Point Park. Asbury shot 315 as a team through the first 18 holes and then improved their score vastly by 12 strokes in the second round with a team score of 303.
In total, AU has shot 618 for the tournament. They are only three shots back from Midway, who currently is in second place. Brescia is in the lead after the first two rounds with a team score of 606.
For Asbury, Victor Vargas is in 10th place on the individual leaderboard with a score of 151. Vargas improved his score by nine strokes in round two, shooting a 71.
Gavin Smith is tied for 15th place with a 155 overall score. Ben Campbell and Marcos Ezcurra are both tied in 17th after shooting a 156 through both rounds.
Jose Bustingorri is tied for 34th place in the field after recording a 163 on the day.
AU is back in play for the final round tomorrow morning.
