NEW ALBANY, Ind. -- After collecting a doubleheader sweep at Brescia on Friday, the Asbury University softball team was unable to carry their momentum from last night's over to Saturday, as the Eagles fell twice by scores of 7-3 and 10-2 at IU Southeast.
Asbury is back in action at home on Tuesday as they play host to non-conference opponent Pikeville. First pitch is slated for 3 PM.
Game one
The Eagles fell behind 5-0 quickly as the Grenadiers tacked on two runs in the bottom of the first and then three runs in the second.
AU got a run back in the top of the third as Deana Phillips connected on an RBI double to centerfield, which scored Paige Hill to make it a 5-1 contest.
IU Southeast would score a run each in the obttom of the third and bottom fourth to push thier lead out to 7-1.
Asbury would cut into the deficit in the top of the fifth as they scored two runs. Caitlyn Taylor singled to left followed by a double from Deana Phillips. Taylor scored on a wild pitch and then Phillips would cross the plate moments later off of an infield error.
Ally Moore tossed her third complete game of the week pitching all six innings of work. She stuck out three batters in the loss.
Hill, Taylor, and Phillips both finished 2-4 from the plate, providing AU with six of their seven hits in the contest. Hill and Taylor each tabbed an RBI and Phillips had two RBI.
Sophia Colclasure finished 1-3 with an RBI.
Game two
AU struggled from the plate as they recorded only two hits. The Eagles also fell behind early on in game two as they gave up six runs in the bottom of the second.
The Grenadiers scored two runs in the bottom of the third and two in the bottom of the fifth to preserve the win.
Faith Day and Paige Hill each tallied a hit for Asbury's offense.
Hill pitched four innings of work and Deana Phillips tossed 0.1 innings.
