Women's Lacrosse Wins Season Opener at Hanover, 12-10

HANOVER, Ind. – The Asbury University women's lacrosse team opened up the 2019 season with a 12-10 victory at Hanover College on Friday evening.

Hanover scored first to take a 1-0 lead, but AU scored four unanswered goals to take a 4-1 lead early on in the first half.

The Eagles' offense continued to thrive as Aubrey Curell, Ashley Byrd, and Mia Doron netted goals for the Eagles to extend their lead out to 7-4 heading into halftime.

AU struck first in the second half after a goal from Allie Hoskins to push the Eagles ahead 8-4.

Hanover would rally back and score four straight goals over a span of 12 minutes to even the game at 8-8.

Maddie White's goal with 3:42 to play put AU ahead 10-9 late in the second half. Hanover would tie the game up once again 1:41 to play.

11 seconds later, Aubrey Curell scored the game-winning goal to give AU the lead back.

Moments after that goal, Curell netted another goal off of a free position shot to preserve the victory for Asbury.

The Eagles totaled 28 shots, with 24 of them landing on-goal.

Elle Crossman recorded 13 saves throughout the game.

Asbury held the draw control advantage at a 14-10 margin and scooped up 31 ground balls.

Curell finished with a team-high four goals scored.

Maddie White tabbed three goals, and Ashley Byrd finished with two.

Haskins added a goal and posted a team-high two assists. Mia Doron tabbed one goal and an assist, while Sarah Smith registered one goal.

Asbury is back in action next Thursday at home against Marian.
