KINGSPORT, Tenn. - The Asbury University men and women swimming teams competed in day one of the AAC Championships in Kingsport, Tenn. on Thursday.
The men are currently in fourth place and the women are in third after the completion of competition on day one. The Eagles put forth a strong effort in the pool and recorded many top finishes, including first-place winners in Alex Wu (200 IM) and Hope Clark (500 Free).
Day two will resume tomorrow as the championships conclude on Saturday.
Head Coach Alex Keyser stated, "I'm very pleased with our swims throughout the day. We produced two AAC Conference Champions (Hope Clark – 500 Freestyle and Alex Wu – 200 IM), three new NAIA National Qualifying Standard swims (Rosie Gary and Kristin Sauer – 500 Freestyle and Claire Goodrum – 200 IM), and a ton of season best and lifetime best swims. Both sides have some work to do in the next two days to climb the team rankings, but we had quite a few guys who did not swim individual events today. I'm really encouraged by our level of enthusiasm and fast swimming in the first day."
