Eagles' Four-Game Winning Streak Ends at IU Southeast

NEW ALBANY, Ind. -- The Asbury University men's basketball team saw their four-game winning streak come to a close on Saturday afternoon, as they fell 89-74 at IUS in RSC play.

 

AU had won eight of nine coming into Saturday and are now 16-9, 9-5 RSC on the season.

 

Asbury got off to a slow start in the first half. The Eagles fell behind early on 24-10, as IU Southeast pushed their lead out to double digits.

AU was just 11-33 shooting from the floor in the first half and trailed 35-25 at the half.

The Grenadiers jumped out to a 43-30 lead in the opening stages of the second half, but a 10-4 run from the Eagles' trimmed the lead down to seven at 47-40.

However, Asbury was unable to cut into the lead further throughout the game. Each time the Eagles made a run, the Grenadiers would respond right back. 

IU Southeast shot the ball from behind the arc in the second half and were able to extend their lead up to 13 points at 61-48 moments later.

The Grenadiers would not allow Asbury to find a way back into the contest. Their largest lead of the night was 18 points.

Trenton Thompson led Asbury is scoring once again with 24 points on 9-16 shooting from the floor.

Thompson also collected six rebounds, two assists, and two blocks.

Clif Conley scored 18 points on 6-12 shooting. Conley was 3-8 shooting from three-point territory and added three steals.

Siah Holifield added 14 points on 7-9 shooting. Additionally, Holifield finished with eight rebounds and five assists, both team-highs for AU.

Asbury shot 40 percent from the floor but were just 56 percent shooting at the free throw line.

The Eagles were also out-rebounded 42-32 on the glass.

Asbury is back in action at the Luce Center on Tuesday evening at 7:30 PM against IU-Kokomo. Tuesday's game has been slated as Family Night- Presented by Chick-fil-A.
