UNION, Ky. – Asbury's women's golf team claimed the team title at the River States Conference Women's Golf Fall Preview and Hannah McCrabb took medalist honors at the event held Monday-Tuesday at Lassing Pointe Golf Course.
Both the team and McCrabb trailed after the first round, surged to the lead in the second round and held on for the victory.
Asbury was in third place after 18 holes and then turned in the best team score of the tournament with a 323 in round two to move into the lead. The Eagles followed that up with another solid round of 333 over the final 18 holes to clinch the title by two shots over Midway.
After an opening round of 78, McCrabb trailed Midway's Kathryn Lawler by three shots. The freshman then posted a 1-over 72 in the second round, the lowest round shot by any golfer in the tournament, to take a six-shot lead into the final round.
McCrabb finished the tournament with a three-round total of 229 (+16) and defeated Lawler by two shots. Claire Watts and Jennifer Fuqua also posted top-10 finishes for the Eagles. Watts finished in sixth place with a 246 and Fuqua tied for 10th with a 259.
The 54-hole tournament served as a preview for the RSC Tournament at the same course in the spring. The 2018 RSC Women's Golf Tournament will be held April 16-17, 2018 with the top team qualifying for the NAIA Women's Golf National Championship May 22-25, 2018 at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
