WILMORE -- Asbury's volleyball team got off to a quick start but was unable to continue the momentum in a 3-1 (11-25, 25-17, 25-16, 30-28) defeat to Brescia Tuesday.
The Eagles used a 10-0 run to cruise to an opening-set victory but the match quickly turned to Brescia's favor. The Bearcats took leads in the next two sets relatively early and held on in each to take a 2-1 lead.
The fourth set proved to be the most thrilling and most competitive set of the night. Trailing 24-22, AU held off two match points to keep play going. The Eagles then had three match points of their own but were unable to capitalize. The Bearcats converted on their fourth match point to claim the 3-1 win.
In a match that featured several attacks and long rallies, Kayla Morlan led the AU offense with 16 kills, followed by Lizzy Rempel with 12. Rachyl Miller and Laura Bird dished out 23 and 20 assists, respectively.
AU (10-5 5-2 RSC) will next play at IU Southeast Oct. 17.
