WILMORE – Asbury's baseball team rallied from a four-run deficit to take the lead but Cincinnati Christian scored nine runs in the final three innings for a 14-9 victory in the season opener for both squads.
CCU began the scoring with a four-run second inning to take an early 4-0 lead. AU cut its deficit in half with two runs in the bottom half of the inning on Austin Jennings' two-run single and added another run in the third inning as Alejandro Jivanjee, who doubled, scored on an error.
CCU added a run in the fifth for a 5-3 advantage and then Asbury took its first lead of the game with a five-run sixth inning. Young Lee was hit by a pitch leading off and later scored on a passed ball. Jivanjee hit a two-run single with the bases loaded to give AU a 6-5 lead and Josh Blancet hit a two-run double to extend the lead to three.
CCU answered with one run in the seven, five runs in the eighth and three runs in the ninth. AU's last run came in the eighth on DJ Perkins' RBI single.
AU finished the game with eight hits led by Jivanjee and Blancet with two each.
AU (0-1) will next host Kentucky Christian for a doubleheader Friday.
