WILMORE --The Asbury's women's tennis team excelled in the River States Conference Individual Tournament held Friday and Saturday.
The tournament consisted of 10 different draws, six singles and four doubles, each named after a different color. Of the 10 brackets, the Eagles took first place in four (three singles and one doubles) of them.
The Purple Draw final pitting Asbury's Caitlin Conyers and IU East's Dana Frank proved to be an exciting match that took a third-set tiebreaker to decide. Conyers came away victorious with a 6-2, 6-7, (14-12) victory. In winning the match, Conyers revenged a loss to Frank in one of the finals in last year's event.
Conyers cruised to the final with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Brescia's Divinity Price in the first round and a 6-0, 6-0 decision over IU Southeast's Sarah Hawes in the second round.
Kendall Jablonowski took the Blue Draw with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over IU Southeast's Lauren Winchell. Jablonowski had no problem advancing to the final, dropping just a single point in her first two matches.
Jana Schmaenk was the winner of the White Draw with a 6-2, 6-2 decision over IU East's Bri Ayres. Three of the four sets Schmaenk won to get to the championship were by 6-0 scores.
Schmaenk teamed up with Kendall Leander to win the Silver Draw. After receiving a first-round bye the pair won their next two matches 8-4, including the championship over Winchell and Hawes of IU Southeast.
Alejandra Diaz Mares was another Eagle to compete in the finals, taking second place in the Crimson Draw. Diaz Mares rallied from a set down to defeat IU East's Kaylin Venzia in the semifinals before dropping the final to IU Southeast' Tamerra Horton 7-6, 6-1.
Diaz Mares and Jablonowski teamed together to finish second in the Green Draw, falling to the IU Southeast pair of Frank and Horton..
The Eagles will next compete in the ITA Regionals at Georgetown, Ky. Sept. 21-23.
