WILMORE -- Saturday's contest between Asbury and Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) turned out to be a display of offenses, one in which MNVU came away with a 6-3 victory.
MNVU took a 2-0 lead and led the rest of the match. The Eagles cut their deficit to one on three different occasions but the Cougars always had an answer.
The Cougars finished the game with 16 shots (12 on goal) and the Eagles had 12 shots (nine on goal). MNVU held an 11-7 shot advantage in the first half and led 3-1 at halftime. The teams recorded the same amount of shots in the second half with MNVU converting on one more than AU.
Owen Sigey put AU on the scoreboard with a great individual effort near the end of the first half. Noah Welch scored both of AU's second-half goals, assisted by Isaac Amaya and Ryan Metcalf. Welch took six shots in the math that were all on goal.
Tim Kasparek recorded a hat trick for the Cougars and Breno Nascimento added two goals.
AU (2-2) will next host Georgetown (Ky.) Tuesday.
