BLUFTON, Ohio – Asbury's men's soccer team had no problem bouncing back from its first loss of the season as the Eagles rolled to a 9-1 victory over Blufton Wednesday.
"I'm proud of the effort the guys put in," AU head coach Ben Andrews said. "We asked them to make some technical and tactical changes based on our last match and they responded well."
Ryan Metcalf scored three goals to lead the Eagle offense. He netted the game's first goal and his second score gave AU a 4-0 lead at halftime.
"We have multiple players that are able to take over a match and captain Ryan Metcalf proved it today," Andrews said. "We still have some tweaks we need to perform to address a few weaknesses that each opponent so far have been able to exploit. Bluffton's work rate and determination caused a few issues late in the match; credit goes to Coach James Kusak on that."
AU (2-1) will next host Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) Saturday
"It's important that we continue to learn from each match and approach every training session with the same intensity and desire to succeed," Andrews said. "We play quality opponents this season and I fully expect this team and program to be prepared for each one with an expectation of success."
