WILMORE, Ky. — Asbury University Athletic Director Mark Perdue announced Tuesday that Ben Murphy has been hired as the second men's lacrosse coach in the program's history.
"Coach Murphy has great playing and coaching experience and we are excited to have him lead the Men's Lacrosse program", Perdue said of the hire.
In February 2017, Murphy joined the coaching staff at Asbury — as an assistant and defensive coordinator — after serving as the first head coach at Westminster College in Fulton, Mo. Murphy also served two seasons as a graduate assistant for Ohio Valley University.
Prior to coaching at the collegiate level, Murphy spent three seasons as an assistant coach at multiple high schools. He began his coaching career at Lexington (Ky.) Catholic High School in 2010, and moved to his alma mater, South Oldham, in fall of 2011 where he was the assistant varsity coach and the head junior varsity coach. He earned the 2012 Boys High School Assistant Coach of the Year Award by the Kentucky Lacrosse Association, and he has served as a certified lacrosse official for six years.
Murphy played one season at NCAA Division III College of Mount St. Joseph before transferring to the University of Kentucky. He played three seasons with the Wildcats and was the team captain for the 2012-13 season.
Murphy received his Master's in Education from Ohio Valley University in May of 2016. He is a 2013 graduate of the University of Kentucky where he received his Bachelor's in Communication.
"I am excited to take over the program at Asbury," Murphy said. "I see great potential for the future with this team and cannot wait to get started."
