MOLINE, Illinois - Matt McCurry played his first round on Tuesday at TPC Deere Run for the NAIA National Championship being held Tuesday through Friday. The River States Conference Champion fired a 76 for the opening round, sitting at plus-5 for the tournament on the par-71 course.
McCurry took a bit to get settled into the tournament as he teed off the par-5 10th yesterday afternoon. After opening with a par McCurry played the next five holes at four-over with two-bogeys and a double-bogey on the par-4 15th. A birdie on 17 brought him back to 3-over on the day but another double on the 18th put McCurry at five-over through the first nine holes.
The good news, though, is he rebounded on the front-nine to play even the rest of the way. He picked up birdies on holes one, four, and five, and bogeyed two, three, and nine.
With his 76 through the first round Matt will comeback Wednesday to look to stay right around the cut-line. The tournament field will be cut to the top-40, plus ties, after 54 holes. McCurry is one shot off that mark after the first round. The individual leaders for the tournament sit at 2-under for the tournament.
McCurry will tee it up at 9:40 p.m. EST (8:40 CST) from hole one for his second round. Follow along with live results at GolfStatResults.com.
