SILVIS, Illinois - Matt McCurry is getting set to compete for Asbury at the NAIA National Championships at TPC Deere Run next week and earlier this week he learned exactly when he'll be teeing it up for the first time.
McCurry qualified for the year-end tournament against the NAIA's top teams and players last month at the River States Conference tournament when he won the individual crown.
McCurry, Corey Matthew of Morningside (Iowa), Joey Medora of Holy Cross (Ind.), Jake Coffey of Indiana Wesleyan and Joe Hurn of St. Andrews (N.C.) tee of No. 10 at 1:20, 1:30, 1:40, 1:50 and 2:00 p.m. on day one. The start times flip on day two for the individuals with the same matchups. He will play alongside fellow RSC team Point Park (Pa.) and The Master's (Calif.) through the first two rounds. He tees off at 1:20 p.m. CST on day one and 8:40 a.m. CST on day two.
The championship is a four-round tournament consisting of a maximum of 156 golfers. Competition is stroke play. Each team competes with five golfers (minimum of four) and the top four scores posted each day are counted toward the team standings. The tournament field is cut after 54 holes.
The 156-player field consists of 21 automatic qualifying teams, which won or finished runner-up in their respective conference, independent or unaffiliated group tournament, eight at-large berths and eleven individual qualifiers.
