PRIORITES AND VALUES GUIDING PRINCIPLES
The following are the guiding principles for Asbury University Athletic priorities and values. These core concepts represent the most significant areas of need for the athletic department and are essential to facilitate future excellence.
Impacting the World: Athletics
|Excellence in Effort||Focused on Discipleship|
|Excellence in Academics||Focused on Outreach|
|Excellence in Character||Focused on Team|
Under Effort – We want to compete tenaciously in athletics as a way of showing our love for God. As stewards of our time and talent, we will prepare through disciplining ourselves to give all that we have in every area of life. This can only be done as we submit ourselves to being led by the Holy Spirit.
Under Academics – AU Athletics is committed to being full partners in the Asbury learning community by preparing student/athletes to be lifelong learners and leaders in their home, workplace, neighborhood, and church. We will challenge and support students to be excellent in their chosen career, while being broadly educated about engaging the world in which we live.
Under character – Coaching at AU will be transformational rather than transactional. Athletics is one of the most powerful tools to prepare students to be people who are: empathetic, look for ways to serve others, create environments of trust, and live with integrity.
Under Discipleship – The player coach relationship is one of the most powerful venues for discipleship. The windows of insight provided through sport create opportunities for coaches to be curious, to ask questions as we use "life on life" to help students consider the attributes of authentic woman and manhood. The result is student/athletes who are prepared to disciple others.
Under outreach – As we understand ourselves and benefit from living in the rich AU community, a natural expression of all that has been given to us will be sharing what we have and helping others. This giving to others will impact local, national, and global communities. We will seek to bring healing and redemption to a need world.
Under Team – Relationships provide the context for individuals to realize all that God has created them to be. The team provides a model of what healthy community looks like where people are fully known and fully loved. This ability to create community is translated into their career, family, neighborhoods, and church.
